Back to the Salt Mines, in Sound featured on National Public Radio’s All Things Considered program
“Listener Chris Eden takes us on a ride down a 650-foot-deep elevator, into a salt mine used for storage under the soil of Hutchinson, Kan. The elevator shakes and shimmies as it drops, and we listen to its sounds as part of our ‘SoundClips’ series.
“The commercial storage facility is built into a salt formation. The elevator was built to service both a company called Underground Vaults and Storage, as well as the Kansas Underground Salt Museum, which will begin giving tours of the caverns in October.”
